The American College of Osteopathic Surgeons has elected Dr. Adam Smith as the President of the national association. The American College of Osteopathic surgeons is committed to assuring excellence in osteopathic surgical care through education, advocacy, leadership development, and the fostering of professional and personal relationships. Dr. Smith is the chief surgeon and founder of Fort Worth Lap-Band® located in Ft Worth, Texas which also consists of a team of surgeons and medical professionals.
Dr. Smith fights obesity on a personal and professional level and in 2002 chose to undergo weight loss surgery to aid in his own personal weight struggle. He has lost over 100 lbs and believes that a surgeon, who is also a patient, aids him in developing a practice that understands the difficulties and needs of all obese patients. In 2010 Dr. Smith was appointed a spokesperson by the Obesity Action Coalition and Allergan as part of the Voice my C.H.O.I.C.E. campaign. His tireless work has afforded him to speak to congressional representatives about his experience with obesity and the policy reforms needed in this country to fight the need for weight loss education and a healthy lifestyle.
