Fluid goals
By: Meaghan Points- Registered Dietitian
Getting in all your fluids before having bariatric surgery is a struggle for most and it becomes even harder after surgery. When you cannot drink with your meals and have to wait 30 min after each meal to start drinking again, it is easy to fall behind and find yourself unable to keep up. Our bodies are made up of mostly water and making sure you get enough plays a role in your overall health and well being. You will know if you are getting enough water by monitoring the color of your urine which you typically want to be a pale, lemonade color. Every person requires a different amount of fluid each day so that is the easiest way to monitor it. If you must have a goal number, typically you want about 48-72 oz each day. Here are some pointers on how to keep up with your fluids
Carry Water Bottle With You
By having your drink with you, you will be more likely to pick it up and drink it throughout the day.
Set Alarms On Phone
Setting an alarm to go off every 15 min can be super annoying, which might be just the thing you need to get you to drink often
Get App On Your Phone
There are several apps on your phone that can help you get your fluids in by going off and tracking your daily intake
Purchase Water Bottle That Reminds You To Drink
These are a newer thing out there and they seem really cool. There are several out there and what they do is blink at you when you have not drank in a while. There are even some that can sync with your Fitbit or phone app to track the actual amount you intake daily.
