Setting New Year's Goals

Setting New Year's Goals

― Dr. SeussOh, The Places You’ll Go!

This is Day 1. This is the perfect place to start. You don’t need a new Monday or a New Year to get started, but it’s here. And, it always feels good to start fresh. So, take note of what worked for you last year, what you want to accomplish this year, and let’s get started on those new goals.

When setting new goals, the most important thing, after identifying the goal is actually STARTING. That means today, right now. It doesn’t matter what happened yesterday or what you ate (or drank), each moment is a new moment to start moving in the right direction–toward better health.

Whether your goal is to lose a certain number of pounds or to run a 5k, having a goal in mind is the best way to start.

Pick a date for your goal, and then reverse engineer the process. Find small, achievable milestones along the way. If you want to run a 5k, you don’t go out on Day 1 and begin running. Start small, and increase your steps each day, to avoid discouragement, injury, or burnout.

If you want to eat healthier, don’t start by changing every aspect of your diet. Instead, add more water, limit alcohol, or replace dessert with a healthier alternative.

One step at a time, one day at a time.

After you set your goals for the year, find a friend or group of friends that can help encourage you along the way. The extra support will be necessary on the days you really don’t want to push. If you don’t have support in real life, find a group of like-minded people in the social media world.

If you need help getting started, Ultimate Bariatrics has a Facebook support group as well. When you can reach out to others, ask questions, and encourage others, you’re more likely to stick to your goals.

If you’re considering a bariatric procedure this year, give us a call, set up a consultation, and find out how to begin the process. The hardest part of a new goal is getting started!

You deserve to live your ultimate life. So, set those goals, stick to them, and make 2018 your best year yet!
