Vitamin D and obesity
Did you know that Institute of Medicine Recommended Daily Allowance Vitamin D guidelines are blanket amounts for various ages? This means that they don’t account for varying heights and weights. Did you know that Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin? This means the more you weigh, the more your body stores. When Vitamin D is stored, it is not in a state useful to your body. Thus, there has been a proven link between low vitamin D levels and those who are overweight and obese. In fact, the Endocrine Society “recommends that obese adults take two to three times more vitamin D in order to meet their body’s needs.” Vitamin D status can be assessed by levels in the serum. Contact us today if you haven’t had micronutrient labs drawn in the past year to see if you need to increase your Vitamin D supplement!
