Mark A. Burroughs, Jr., MD
Dr. Mark A. Burroughs Jr. is a board-certified general surgeon specializing in bariatric and minimally invasive surgery. He is a proud member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society (AOA), and the Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS), reflecting his commitment to clinical excellence, ethical practice, and compassionate patient care.
Dr. Burroughs graduated cum laude from Baylor University and earned his medical degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock (TTUHSC SOM). He completed his general surgery residency at Methodist Dallas Medical Center, where he developed a strong foundation in advanced surgical techniques. He is currently completing a fellowship with Ultimate Bariatrics in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery, as well as the endoscopic management of advanced gastrointestinal disorders.
Throughout his training, Dr. Burroughs has demonstrated strong leadership, serving as a resident member of the Graduate Medical Education Council at Methodist Dallas Medical Center, President of the American Medical Student Association at TTUHSC SOM, and Treasurer of the Student National Medical Association at TTUHSC SOM. Additionally, he participated in the Texas Tech Apprenticeship Program in Vascular Surgery, where he created a diagnostic and treatment manual for medical students and residents under the guidance of Dr. Dixon Santana.
With extensive training in both traditional laparoscopic surgery and robotic surgery, Dr. Burroughs is dedicated to using the most effective and least invasive techniques to support long-term patient outcomes. He is also an active contributor to academic medicine and has authored several publications, including a book chapter in The SAGES Manual of Fluorescence-Guided Surgery.
Dr. Burroughs values the importance of family, individualized patient care, and the lifelong development of the patient-physician relationship. He is passionate about building long-term professional relationships with his patients, empowering them with knowledge, and supporting them throughout their health journeys.
