OAGB - The Mini Bypass
The OAGB, also known as the One Anastomosis Gastric Bypass or mini bypass, is a modified version of the traditional gastric bypass.
The OAGB, also known as the One Anastomosis Gastric Bypass or mini bypass, is a modified version of the traditional gastric bypass. It's a minimally invasive weight loss procedure performed either laparoscopically or robotically.
During the procedure, a small tube-like gastric pouch measuring 7-9cm in length is created. The small intestine is then connected to this new pouch, bypassing approximately 150-200cm of small intestine.
This surgery promotes weight loss by restricting the size of the stomach, preventing overeating. Additionally, it reduces calorie absorption by decreasing the surface area of intestine that encounters food. While it's less "malabsorptive" than the SADI operation, it's more restrictive due to the smaller gastric pouch.
Overall, the OAGB results in better weight loss and improved resolution of obesity-related health conditions compared to traditional gastric bypass and sleeve procedures.
