The Single Anastomosis Duodenoileal Bypass with Sleeve, also known as SADI-S or stomach intestinal pylorus sparing surgery, is a modified version of the traditional duodenal switch.
It's a minimally invasive weight loss procedure that offers comparable weight loss results to the traditional biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch.
During the SADI-S, a sleeve resection of the stomach is performed, similar to a stand-alone sleeve gastrectomy for weight loss. The duodenum, the first part of the intestine, is divided, and then the sleeve is connected to the small bowel, bypassing around 60% of the intestine.
This procedure leads to better weight loss and resolution of comorbid conditions compared to gastric bypass and stand-alone sleeve surgery. While the weight loss is comparable to traditional biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch, gastrointestinal issues including diarrhea is reduced by 85%.
